I entered Beadaholique‘s “Ocean Treasures” Beading Challenge with my Beadwoven Starfish and Seaglass Earrings and was chosen as a finalist!
In my design I wanted to highlight the seaglass pendant beads I had bought from Beadaholique and wanted my entry to be simple enough for anyone with basic beadweaving knowledge to make themselves.
The starfish are beadwoven in herringbone, also called Ndebele, stitch using Fireline and round seed beads in sizes 8/0 and 11/0 and incorporate a wire guard for easy connection to the kidney earwires. The Seaglass Pendants are attached to a very short length of chain to allow them to hang just below the starfish.
Voting is open till the 14th August. One US finalist and one International finalist can each win a $100 gift voucher from Beadaholique. The photo with the most “Likes” wins!

I started off my day by packing my first ArtFire sale that was bought by a lovely customer as a gift for a friend of hers. I am making all my own jewellery packaging at the moment. The item is wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and bound by ribbon, then it is placed inside a handmade pillow box. I am constructing the pillow boxes from black cardstock with a wide ribbon, on which I stick my homemade logo stickers. I print out 30 stickers on each A4 sheet of peel-off adhesive silver foil for InjJet printers.
I also packed a little gift for the customer herself, as a little ‘thank you’ for being my first ArtFire customer. As soon as the packing was done I went to the Post Office and sent both packages off.
After my walk to the PO I was happy to do some beading. I started a pair of earrings with pretty little glass flowers in a delicious violet/raspberry colour with coordinating seed beads and fringe beads.

The Purple Friday event by It’s Better Handmade on Facebook was changed to Color Me Friday! This week’s chosen colour is Blue in all its shades. I created a choker and earrings set of the most beautiful turquoise blue with a single fluffy feather and a selection of glass and silver beads.
